Laura Bush and Cancer

Sometime during the first presidential period of George Bush, the first lady was diagnosed with squamous-cell carcinoma, the second most common form of skin cancer. Some time later, the malignant tissue was removed.

When identified early and treated promptly, as was the case with Laura Bush, the future is bright. However, when a person has had skin cancer, the chances are relatively high of developing it again later on. If that one would recur, there is also the problem that this type of cancer tends to metastasize.

If that were to happen, Mrs Bush better hope that by then science will have already found a mechanism of avoiding further complications.

People like her and her husband are so typical of what resides at the core of the world’s problem. They go through life chanting that God is their guide and that they trust the Lord to keep them healthy. However, when they get sick, they always run towards the scientists and not towards their spiritual guides. When they feel pain, they go to the medical doctors and not to the priests. They actually go to the very best specialists and utilize the best medical equipment and the best pharmaceuticals.

They are such hypocrites. They spend their life doubting science, preaching against the evils of science, and cutting funds for medical research in fields such as stem cell research. However, when they fall ill, they want that science cures them and have no qualms about taking treatments that they labeled as immoral.

President Ronald Reagan spent much of his time in office pretending to have the moral high ground on matters of medicine. He preached against abortion, against contraception, and reduced funds for several fields that were deemed as colluding with his ludicrous faith. However, when he fell ill with Alzheimer’s, his wife became an active supporter of stem cell research and other fields of supposedly questionable morality.

Where was the Almighty Jesus when Mr. Reagan started loosing his memory? Where was the all-powerful God when he started forgetting the faces of even his family? They were nowhere near him just as they have never been present when others have fallen ill. The fact is that the God of the Christians, of the Muslims, of the Hindus, and of the Buddhists has never come to the rescue of any human being who has ever been sick in this world.

With gods and prophets like the ones that the religions of this world have seen, people do not need enemies. They are never there when needed. They were not there two thousands years ago, they were not there a thousand years ago, and they are not there now.

It is science the only one that can help the sick and the sooner everybody accepts that fact, the better it will be for all.
